柏林电影节（Berlin International Film Festival）原名西柏林国际电影节，欧洲第一流的国际电影节之一。 20世纪50年代初由阿尔弗莱德·鲍尔发起筹划，得到了当时的联邦德国政府和电影界的支持和帮助，1951年6月底至7月初在西柏林举行第一届。每年一次，原在6～7月间举行，后为与戛纳国际电影节竞争，提前至 2～3 月间举行，为期两周。其目的在于加强世界各国电影工作者的交流，促进电影艺术水平的提高。
1945 年的夏天，电影从德国人的生活中暂时消失了两个月，德国多数大城市成了一片废墟，柏林的建筑倒塌了四分之三，许多人躲到地下掩体过夜，更多的人露宿街头。盟军虽然占领了德国首都，还有更多的事要做，重建秩序，保障治安，捉拿纳粹余党，满足居民日用供给。在这种情况下，所有的文化场所都关门了，但衣食的匮乏也没能阻碍老百姓对娱乐生活的需求，那一年的秋天刚刚来临，歇业不久的电影院纷纷开张，奉献出两个小时的忘情投入和温馨空间，是电影给了风雨飘摇中的德国人最后一点卑微的温暖，即令国破家亡，德国电影人也在努力工作。 德意志联邦共和国诞生的第一年，政府就对资助电影极为热心，他们想到要搞一个大规模的国际电影节，就定在柏林，须知对于联邦德国来说，西柏林是嵌入民主德国的一块飞地，地理位置非常敏感。为什么一定是柏林？ 从柏林电影节诞生的第一天起，政治就是压倒性的主题，至少电影艺术交流完全不在考虑之列。这是一个完全的冷战产物。 对柏林电影节的创办起到关键作用的其实是美国驻德的文化官员，他们一心要将电影节塑造成鼓吹西方文明制度，反对共产主义的文化桥头堡。柏林这个曾经的东欧文化枢纽，此刻成为西德民主复兴的象征。 1951年6月，西柏林举办了第一届电影节。因为预算不高，规模也不大，只有20个国家的来宾参加，这个被盟军炮弹摧毁的城市显然不是理想的旅游之地，所有人都对糟糕的天气和接待工作怨声载道。柏林的浓 柏林国际电影节奖杯

戛纳在七八十年前只是个平凡无奇的海滨小镇，并非天生就是有钱人俱乐部。市政厅绞尽脑汁也想不出拿什么特色来吸引更多游客来这里度假。

戛纳在公元5世纪被雷汉岛修道院中的僧侣们控制。1530年左右脱离了僧侣数百年来的控制。1834年英国勋爵布鲁厄姆途经法国南部蔚蓝海岸到意大利度假，不巧因霍乱流行边界封锁，只能滞留于当时还只是一个渔村的戛纳。却意外发现景物丰美，于是决定建造别墅。而后引起欧洲上流社会名人们的关注。

戛纳在1899年启用电车，1863年启用车站，在19世纪末修建完成了一些铁路。到了20世纪，戛纳有了自己的豪华酒店，现代化的体育中心、汽车、邮局和学校。后来，1939年，法国为了对抗当时受意大利法西斯政权控制的威尼斯国际电影节而创办了“戛纳国际电影节”。
