手风琴，东北一直是中国手风琴文化的重要培育地，地理因素居多，源源不绝的俄罗斯民谣或小调由东北传入中国，因此《钢的琴》的配乐主调是明显以手风琴居多，如《三套车》 、《步步高》、俄罗斯摇滚乐团lube的《Skoro dembel 》或王雁盟的《玛奇朵漂浮》等，都圆融地在这部电影里起舞
电影的音乐。因为故事的原因，电影中大部分都是前苏联社会主义建设时期流行于工人阶级的音乐，例如刚开始秦海璐唱的《三套车》，以及后来手风琴伴奏，故事进入高潮一起开始造琴，在这种劳动场景中lube的skoro dembe，这首曲子是具有俄罗斯民族特色的摇滚，由九十年代俄罗斯最好的乐队lube演唱，他们的歌曲通常是歌唱俄罗斯的土地，
影片的一开始，由王千源和秦海璐组成的草台班子歌剧团就先唱出了一首《三套车》，“冰雪覆盖着伏尔加河，冰河上跑着三套车，有人在唱着忧郁的歌，唱歌是那赶车的人”；之后情绪急转，悲情立刻转为喜悦，演奏一曲《步步高》。这也暗示了影片悲喜交加的调子。

俄国的曲子，俄罗斯民谣《芦苇沙沙响》第一次出现时淑娴给桂林唱的（0:37），讲述首歌的故事，第二次出现是发现淑娴背叛他，自己在街上，（1:24） 不过最让人会心一笑的就是《超级玛丽》闯关音乐的运用，并且共计两次。超级玛丽声音的出现：第一次（09:27）出现在王千源为女儿搭建木质钢琴上，女儿玩游戏的音乐直接架入到现实，既诙谐又有一种儿戏的感觉。影片中段出现了第二次，王千源正在为如何铸造一架钢琴而犯愁，当时出现的音乐则变成了超级玛丽过关失败的声音，那种悲凉感稍稍触动心灵。（1：22）
对于风格各式各样的配乐，导演张猛早先接受南都记者采访时表示道，“其实我一直希望说在音乐配乐上可以有种细腻的存在，像是早先俄罗斯、东德的音乐，那个年代的一些国语流行音乐就会有这种感觉。很多歌曲你一听，就会拨动你心中的那根弦。这应该是电影在视觉之余给人的另一种体验。”
姜育恒的「跟往事干杯」或李寿全的「张三的歌」，除了带领观众回忆当时的时代精神，也有意无意地 点出这种小人物历经沧桑却又满怀希望的纠结与坚强，更让《钢的琴》有效地和充满廉价笑声、低俗情节的二三流喜剧做出区别，观众欢笑同时，也能沉静地感怀时代变迁并反思当下社会，即便《钢的琴》在我看来，对于社会冲突与矛盾的批判力道上仍有些避重就轻，但毕竟这是一部喜剧，能作到如此举重若轻，足以让你我敬他一杯
影片强烈的形式感和富于张力的音乐也是一大亮点。影片中有多处舞台形式的段落，甚至于还有极为写意的场景，比如陈桂林在大雪纷飞中，肆意的弹奏着钢琴，顶光打下来，自然而然的将陈桂林的失意与梦想强烈的对比表达出来。另外使用多首极具怀旧感的流行音乐和俄罗斯民谣，着实拉近了观众与那个时代的距离。

如流水的往事正是以陈桂林和工友们为代表，而明日酒杯，不正是陈桂林一直想要留住的女儿吗？在这首歌里，歌者奉劝诸位明日的酒杯莫要再装着昨日的伤悲。影片最后女儿随着前妻离去，正是陈桂林的决定，也是对现实的无奈与妥协。 《致爱丽丝》，片中几次出现了贝多芬的《献给爱丽丝》，这个但凡是初学钢琴者都耳熟能详的由理查德.克莱德曼在上世纪90年代演绎出如梦似幻的经典曲目，成为当年很多琴童及其家长们的终极理想。献给爱丽丝，在电影中，也是一个梦想，是一种对不能达到的远方的欣羡和期翼。贫穷的家境，简陋的摆设，木质的键盘，父亲坐在椅子上，畅想的却是在雪中抚着琴键奏出那首优美无比的《献给爱丽丝》。那一刻，超越了贫穷、超越了现实的父亲，是幸福的。

片尾，王千源饰演的父亲，站在一旁，看着女儿弹着成型的钢琴时候的表情，那是一种毫无欣慰的冷冷的表情，既看不到大功已成的成就感，又没有看见女儿回归的幸福感，其他的伙伴包括秦海璐也都只是静静地站在一旁，一样凝望而无表情。这种真实感强烈地从视觉上深深地打动着我，把观影者从荒诞的剧情一把拽回残酷的现实，好多人生目标，历经千辛万苦实现的那一刻，竟然没有感觉到一丝丝当初想象的兴奋感，留下的只有疲惫，疲惫到无力的感觉……
《钢的琴》理应被归为一部新现实主义电影，以单纯的拍摄手法来对准平凡的生活、底层人物的生存状态，构建于真实现实状况的故事都把它指向了“新”，它身上浓烈的新现实主义风来源于我们的生活，也来源于我们时代更迭给我们带来的切身影响，那便是时代的痛，时代之痛是作用在人身上的，那群人便是生活在时代变迁夹缝之中的人，他们贫穷，但是似乎还存有一丝不靠谱的激情，让人为之动容。
时代深处之伤痛是作用在人身上的，一个时代的人牺牲，一个时代的人送 葬，在漫无边际的破败工业废墟之中，一起注视着旧时代的崩塌，新时代的挣扎重生，而处于这种交替边缘的人却如此渺小，但是发生在他们身上的事，却真真实实的倒映着我们这个时代，我们时代的伤疤深深的烙在了他们的身上，小人物身上背负的东西，正是我们引以为自豪或者是唾弃的整个时代。
