维克多的护照和身份证件，以及移民文件都全都失去了效用，他被扣在了机场。瞬时间，维克多成了一个没国没家的孤立的人，他成为国际政治变化的牺牲品。在被扣在机场期间，维克多只有两个选择：要么返回祖国，可是他的国家政变后，已经不再承认办理了移民手续的他是国民；要么拿到有效的证件，进入移民的美国，但他的证件显然已经失效而且再也无法补回了。

站在这个不属于自己的国家，看着来来往往陌生的人群，维克多不禁感到迷茫。无奈之下，他只能留在机场睡在大厅的椅子上，在卫生间里洗澡，靠为路过的乘客服务生活。他现在拥有的只有自己不自由的身体，以及一个小皮箱，里面装着换洗的衣服、一把剃须刀和已经作费的身份证明。
