手風琴，東北一直是中國手風琴文化的重要培育地，地理因素居多，源源不絕的俄羅斯民謠或小調由東北傳入中國，因此《鋼的琴》的配樂主調是明顯以手風琴居多，如《三套車》 、《步步高》、俄羅斯搖滾樂團lube的《Skoro dembel 》或王雁盟的《瑪奇朵漂浮》等，都圓融地在這部電影里起舞
電影的音樂。因為故事的原因，電影中大部分都是前蘇聯社會主義建設時期流行於工人階級的音樂，例如剛開始秦海璐唱的《三套車》，以及後來手風琴伴奏，故事進入高潮一起開始造琴，在這種勞動場景中lube的skoro dembe，這首曲子是具有俄羅斯民族特色的搖滾，由九十年代俄羅斯最好的樂隊lube演唱，他們的歌曲通常是歌唱俄羅斯的土地，
影片的一開始，由王千源和秦海璐組成的草台班子歌劇團就先唱出了一首《三套車》，「冰雪覆蓋著伏爾加河，冰河上跑著三套車，有人在唱著憂郁的歌，唱歌是那趕車的人」；之後情緒急轉，悲情立刻轉為喜悅，演奏一曲《步步高》。這也暗示了影片悲喜交加的調子。
除去各種俄羅斯小調外，電影中還充滿了1980年代到1990年代初流行在小城鎮的歌曲。台灣民謠《張三的歌》，香港流行天後徐小鳳的《心戀》，情歌王子姜育恆的代表作《跟往事乾杯》，以及，動聽的歌聲伴著悅耳的音樂令人心動。《張三的歌》、《心戀》、《跟往事乾杯》等流行曲目以點題加詼諧的方式出現在影片的各個段落，讓大家在視覺享受之餘，耳朵也沒閑著。
俄國的曲子，俄羅斯民謠《蘆葦沙沙響》第一次出現時淑嫻給桂林唱的（0:37），講述首歌的故事，第二次出現是發現淑嫻背叛他，自己在街上，（1:24） 不過最讓人會心一笑的就是《超級瑪麗》闖關音樂的運用，並且共計兩次。超級瑪麗聲音的出現：第一次（09:27）出現在王千源為女兒搭建木質鋼琴上，女兒玩游戲的音樂直接架入到現實，既詼諧又有一種兒戲的感覺。影片中段出現了第二次，王千源正在為如何鑄造一架鋼琴而犯愁，當時出現的音樂則變成了超級瑪麗過關失敗的聲音，那種悲涼感稍稍觸動心靈。（1：22）
對於風格各式各樣的配樂，導演張猛早先接受南都記者采訪時表示道，「其實我一直希望說在音樂配樂上可以有種細膩的存在，像是早先俄羅斯、東德的音樂，那個年代的一些國語流行音樂就會有這種感覺。很多歌曲你一聽，就會撥動你心中的那根弦。這應該是電影在視覺之餘給人的另一種體驗。」
姜育恆的「跟往事乾杯」或李壽全的「張三的歌」，除了帶領觀眾回憶當時的時代精神，也有意無意地 點出這種小人物歷經滄桑卻又滿懷希望的糾結與堅強，更讓《鋼的琴》有效地和充滿廉價笑聲、低俗情節的二三流喜劇做出區別，觀眾歡笑同時，也能沉靜地感懷時代變遷並反思當下社會，即便《鋼的琴》在我看來，對於社會沖突與矛盾的批判力道上仍有些避重就輕，但畢竟這是一部喜劇，能作到如此舉重若輕，足以讓你我敬他一杯
影片強烈的形式感和富於張力的音樂也是一大亮點。影片中有多處舞台形式的段落，甚至於還有極為寫意的場景，比如陳桂林在大雪紛飛中，肆意的彈奏著鋼琴，頂光打下來，自然而然的將陳桂林的失意與夢想強烈的對比表達出來。另外使用多首極具懷舊感的流行音樂和俄羅斯民謠，著實拉近了觀眾與那個時代的距離。

如流水的往事正是以陳桂林和工友們為代表，而明日酒杯，不正是陳桂林一直想要留住的女兒嗎？在這首歌里，歌者奉勸諸位明日的酒杯莫要再裝著昨日的傷悲。影片最後女兒隨著前妻離去，正是陳桂林的決定，也是對現實的無奈與妥協。 《致愛麗絲》，片中幾次出現了貝多芬的《獻給愛麗絲》，這個但凡是初學鋼琴者都耳熟能詳的由理查德.克萊德曼在上世紀90年代演繹出如夢似幻的經典曲目，成為當年很多琴童及其家長們的終極理想。獻給愛麗絲，在電影中，也是一個夢想，是一種對不能達到的遠方的欣羨和期翼。貧窮的家境，簡陋的擺設，木質的鍵盤，父親坐在椅子上，暢想的卻是在雪中撫著琴鍵奏出那首優美無比的《獻給愛麗絲》。那一刻，超越了貧窮、超越了現實的父親，是幸福的。

片尾，王千源飾演的父親，站在一旁，看著女兒彈著成型的鋼琴時候的表情，那是一種毫無欣慰的冷冷的表情，既看不到大功已成的成就感，又沒有看見女兒回歸的幸福感，其他的夥伴包括秦海璐也都只是靜靜地站在一旁，一樣凝望而無表情。這種真實感強烈地從視覺上深深地打動著我，把觀影者從荒誕的劇情一把拽回殘酷的現實，好多人生目標，歷經千辛萬苦實現的那一刻，竟然沒有感覺到一絲絲當初想像的興奮感，留下的只有疲憊，疲憊到無力的感覺……
《鋼的琴》理應被歸為一部新現實主義電影，以單純的拍攝手法來對准平凡的生活、底層人物的生存狀態，構建於真實現實狀況的故事都把它指向了「新」，它身上濃烈的新現實主義風來源於我們的生活，也來源於我們時代更迭給我們帶來的切身影響，那便是時代的痛，時代之痛是作用在人身上的，那群人便是生活在時代變遷夾縫之中的人，他們貧窮，但是似乎還存有一絲不靠譜的激情，讓人為之動容。
時代深處之傷痛是作用在人身上的，一個時代的人犧牲，一個時代的人送 葬，在漫無邊際的破敗工業廢墟之中，一起注視著舊時代的崩塌，新時代的掙扎重生，而處於這種交替邊緣的人卻如此渺小，但是發生在他們身上的事，卻真真實實的倒映著我們這個時代，我們時代的傷疤深深的烙在了他們的身上，小人物身上背負的東西，正是我們引以為自豪或者是唾棄的整個時代。
