概述
電影公司始建於1994年10月，三位創始人分別是史蒂文·斯皮爾伯格（代表DreamWorks SKG中的「S」），傑弗瑞•卡森伯格（代表DreamWorks SKG中的「K」）和大衛·格芬（代表DreamWorks SKG中的「G」）。夢工廠的產品包括電影、動畫片、電視節目、家庭視頻娛樂、唱片、書籍、玩具和消費產品。
動畫方面
夢工廠是唯一能與迪士尼抗衡的電影公司 製作的動畫包括《埃及王子》，《怪物Shrek》，《小馬精靈》，《辛巴達七海傳奇》，《小雞快跑》 夢工廠2010年動畫大片馴龍記
等，並在2010年推出全新3D動畫大片馴龍記。
在電影方面

2005年，派拉蒙(Paramount)收購夢工廠(Dreamworks)
經過一番激烈的明爭暗鬥，派拉蒙電影公司「最後一刻」擊敗NBC環球，以約10億美元的價格與夢工廠敲定收購協議，活脫脫一個好萊塢大片的「意外式」結局。
之前，輿論幾乎一片看好NBC環球，認為這家通用電氣旗下的著名娛樂集團是夢工廠的最佳買主。目前，夢工廠所出品影片的DVD光碟以及海外發行工作均由NBC環球負責代理。事實上，NBC環球一度是夢工廠唯一的求購對象，雖然其間也經歷過不歡而散，但兩個月前雙方又回到了談判桌上。
與此同時，一匹視線之外的黑馬橫空殺出，它就是隸屬於全美最大傳媒集團維亞康母的派拉蒙影業公司。然而，NBC環球起初並未將派拉蒙放在心上，其堅信己方的優勢已不可動搖。上周五，NBC環球再一次向夢工廠確認了約為9億美元的競標價格，卻萬萬沒想到一場噩夢已然降臨。
就在同一天，夢工廠向NBC環球和其下屬的環球電影公司發出通告，決定中止雙方的談判進程轉為接受派拉蒙的報價。知情人士稱，派拉蒙CEO布拉德-格雷和維亞康母聯席總裁湯姆-佛雷斯頓周五與斯皮爾伯格共進午餐，在飯桌上達成了最終協議，從而無比驚險地將NBC環球「最後一刻」送出了局。根據協議，派拉蒙同意向夢工廠支付8.25億美元至9億美元現金，同時承擔後者高達6億美元的負債。預計雙方本周將就收購事宜發表正式聲明。
對派拉蒙來說，夢工廠的加盟不啻為一場期盼已久的「及時雨」。82歲的維亞康母老帥雷石東為此對派拉蒙高層大動干戈，請來了47歲的天才經紀人格雷取代雪利-蘭斯出任公司新CEO。
不僅如此，派拉蒙還獲得獨立上市的夢工廠動畫的影片發行權，以及包括《角鬥士》在內的60部電影所有權。由於和環球的合資發行公司聯合國際影業最近剛剛散夥，派拉蒙正謀求樹立自己的國際發行地位。
「毫無疑問，派拉蒙得到了一座豐富的電影寶庫，外加斯皮爾伯格的鼎鼎大名。」Soleil證券分析師勞拉-馬丁這樣評價道。
