電影折射中西文化差異
摘要：隨著全球化的進程，當今世界各種文化逐漸融合，但彼此間還是存在著一定的差異性，中西文化作為人類整體文化具有其一致性，但在其發展路徑上確實存有諸多差別。本文將透過電影這一文化載體討論中西文化間的一些差異。由此學習西方發達國家文化的優秀之處，並且保留傳統文化的精髓，處理好本土文化與外來文化的關系。

電影是一個很好的文化載體，是反映了文化方方面面的一種媒介。電影很像一個容器，它可把人生中的各種滋味都納入其中，作為現代人去表現對對過去日子的總結，對現在生活的理解，對未來發展的嚮往。
1．自由和民主——《勇敢的心》VS《英雄》
在課上看的由梅爾.吉布森主演的《勇敢的心》，這部攝於1995年的好萊塢電影，將公元十三世紀的蘇格蘭人民大起義這一重大歷史事件搬上銀幕，以宏偉壯闊的氣勢為影片贏得了史詩巨片的稱號。在影片中我們看到蘇格蘭的山脈、森林和村莊，凄婉的風笛和蘇格蘭人民在貧困痛苦中發出的反抗的凄厲的呼號，真切地感受到了歷史。
片中主角華萊士是一個不折不扣的英雄，他的心向著獨立和自由，在斗爭中獻出了自己的生命，雖敗猶榮，不禁讓人想到我國古代荊軻刺秦的故事，所謂的藝術大師張藝謀根據這一題材拍攝的電影《英雄》，雖然在票房上獲得了不小的成績，但是他所表現的英雄到最後還是屈服於統治階級。影片的主旨是秦始皇統一中國是順應生產力發展的，是正確的。在這樣一個前提下，所有英雄們的反秦活動都是愚昧的，無名在最後意識到了錯誤，甘心死於秦兵的亂箭下。與之不同，在《勇敢的心》中，統治者始終是小丑的身份出現，他們用各種見得人或者見不得人方式維持自己的政權和誇大自己的勢力范圍。人民永遠都是他們的羊圈裡的羊。所以電影中把權力階級搞得比較猥瑣是順應人類發展的潮流的，殺死狗官都會讓人覺得解恨，節日般慶祝。如同巴赫金所說的，「與官方節日相對立，狂歡節彷彿是慶祝暫時擺脫占統治地位的真理和現有的制度，慶祝暫時取消一切等級關系，特權，規范和禁令。這是真正的時間節日，不斷生成，更新和更替的節日。它同一切永恆化，一切完成和終結相敵對。它是面向永遠無限的未來的。」
在《勇敢的心》中，殘暴的英格蘭國王殺了華萊士的父親、哥哥、愛人。華萊士不是戰爭狂人，沒有戰爭癖，他是被一步步逼成英雄的有。而在《英雄》中，無名、殘劍、飄雪等人精心計劃的刺秦變得毫無意義，刺秦之前那麼多人做的那麼多的事都變成了愚昧的人做的愚昧的事。我們的唯物主義歷史課本說，人民群眾是歷史車輪的推動者，而不是由僅僅幾個大人物決定的。的確，在《勇敢的心》中有很多士兵征戰的場面，還有華萊士獨自出征被捕的鏡頭。但是，在《英雄》中，歷史被幾個大人物操縱著，其他小人物小百姓連扔塊石子的機會都沒有。什麼是英雄？英雄不僅是指為了某種事業能夠英勇死去的人。英雄還要有人格魅力，有魄力。華萊士算是個英雄，死之前還高呼自由，讓人激憤萬千。而《英雄》中無名也死了，但死之前他承認了錯誤，承認了自己不懂歷史發展規律，但懂了之後又太遲了，按照法律秦始皇要殺他，一個所謂的英雄就這么窩囊的死去。
2．愛情觀——《喜宴》透視婚姻與愛情
同性之愛也是愛情的一種，但它包含了更多的矛盾與沖突。近年來蜚聲國際影壇的華人導演李安，在第78屆奧斯卡上憑借這一題材的《斷臂山》獲得了最佳導演獎。在1993年他就導演了相同題材的一部電影——《喜宴》。
在《喜宴》中，李安就藉助這個題材向我們展示了東西方文化中的一些明顯差異。電影一開始就介紹了旅美華人偉同在美國的紐約曼哈頓區生活，他和他的同性愛人西門過著自由快樂的生活。他們兩人在早上親密吻別，對於鄰居的注視他們視而不見。但可以看到注視他們的人驚恐和鄙視的眼神。這就向我們展示了在美國文化背景下同志的生活環境，即便沒有太高的地位，但也沒有人來制止你的行為。但是反觀中國的同志們，絕沒有人敢毫無顧及地在光天化日之下「親密」。這樣的文化差異就給予後面影片的矛盾和碰撞展開了鋪墊。
在電影里，作為偉同的父母，一對傳統的中國老夫婦。表現出了東方的婚姻觀：男大當婚，女大當嫁。於是偉同的父母不遠萬里來到了美國，要為他們兒子的終身大事「操心」了。為了應付偉同父母的這次行動，偉同決定和威威假結婚。故事發展到這里，文化的差異又開始了：在美國人的眼裡，結婚是浪漫的事情，可是在中國人的眼裡結婚是「面子」的事情。在中國領了結婚證還沒有完全算是結婚，要擺了喜酒才是大功告成。本來以為按西方方式結婚就算完事的偉同，卻因為父母需要「面子」只得按中國人的傳統在美國舉行一場婚宴。
偉同和威威婚後，威威懷孕了。西門知道後，和偉同發生了爭執和沖突。在西門看來，作為自己愛人的偉同是不能也不應該和異性發生關系的，這是不道德的，是不可容忍的。而偉同卻覺得只要他的心屬於愛人就好。這就使電影到達了高潮，表現出東西方人愛情觀的巨大差異。這不僅在《喜宴》里有所表達，在《魂斷藍橋》、《紅與黑》、《簡愛》等許多影視作品和文學作品裡都有關於西方國家的愛情觀的描述。也許這就是在不同文化熏陶下建立起來的思想，是無法輕易改變。
影片的結局是，偉同的父親知道了事情的真相，而西門、偉同和威威決定共同生活。鏡頭在他們三人目送偉同父母離開結束，兩個老人離去的背影成為他們三人心中的痛。電影留給我們無盡的思考空間。當我們在「己所不欲，勿施於人 」、「父母在不遠行」、「不孝有三，無後為大」、「勿管他人瓦上霜，只掃自家門前雪」許多這樣充滿了「仁義」與「自私」的矛盾的道德教育里生活了一代又一代，一個世紀又一個世紀之後，我們該如何看待我們的文化？如何看待在這樣的文化背景下生活著的我們？如何看待我們熱情歌頌的愛？
3．道德觀念——婚外戀之《一聲嘆息》&《廊橋遺夢》
道德一詞在我國古代的解釋是：「道」 ，即道路，引伸為原則、規范、規律、道理的意義。老子說：「道生一，一生二，二生三，三生萬物。」「德」，就是實行某種原則，心中有所得。按莊子的理解，「物得以生為之德」，強調天地萬物的自然本性。在古代中國，這種建立在內心規則、信念基礎之上的道德理解，體現了對道德的形而上思考。但是由於「罷黜百家，獨尊儒術」，道家的思考失卻了主導社會的機會。在儒家，雖然其道德思考具有某種程度的形上性，但其道德從根本上來說是從家庭人倫出發的，再加上其道德實踐中注重人倫之「禮」，因此，儒家的道德從本質上說是注重現實社會的倫理道德。
與此不同，在西方從古希臘到中世紀，再到文藝復興和啟蒙運動，以希臘文化和基督教文化為標志的西方文化，要麼對人進行類的抽象，以理性作為建立道德大廈的基礎；要麼對個體作「超越的突破」，將上帝作為個體永世追求的道德目標。因此與古代中國以儒家道德為主體的倫理性道德不同，西方的道德是建構在對人性的抽象和超越的基礎之上的，它是抽象的，是形而上的。這種缺乏以家庭為背景的人倫之理的道德，形成了與中國倫理性道德的明顯分野，也構成了西方道德的實質和核心，是西方社會發展至今的原始動力，也是解釋現今西方社會政治、經濟、文化發展主流和種種社會矛盾的最本源性的、最權威的典章。
傳統的倫理精神會不自覺滲透，在中國，由於受傳統倫理道德影響，《一聲嘆息》中表達的是應該保持傳統的婚姻家庭，即使愛情並不是婚姻的基礎，婚姻當中還是應該由親情和責任佔主導地位。雖然該片沒有對當事人作任何評判，只是盡可能客觀地講述，但是以另外一種方式苦口婆心勸戒觀眾，表現婚外戀的累與苦，結局處更像是在警告：婚外戀這東西只要一沾上，就是沒完沒了。而西方人崇尚自我，以弗洛依德的精神分析為發端，西方的藝術作品並不迴避人的慾望和本能。《廊橋遺夢》描寫的也是婚外戀，男女主角四天的戀情被描繪得甜蜜美滿、充滿激情，兩人長久的相思以及心靈上的痛苦構成了藝術上凄涼的美、古典式的悲劇美，使得《廊橋遺夢》帶有古典浪漫主義的味道。《廊橋遺夢》受到了許多人的青睞，在一定條件允許的情況下，已婚男女短暫的共同生活也變得可以理解，也就是說，已婚男女愛異性的自由的，是可理解的，是有權力的。雖然兩部影片都以主人公回歸家庭作為結局，但是觀眾還是可以看出在中西方道德觀念的影響作用下兩者對婚外戀的態度是有差異的。
電影就像一個世界文化的大熔爐，僅僅通過對這幾部電影的粗淺探討雖然還遠不能深刻地反映中西方文化的差異。但是電影的直觀性及其文化效應使得它具有多方面的不可替代的社會文化價值。
中西音樂文化比較
音樂如同語言一樣，具有很強的民族性，隨著民族、地域的差異，存在著巨大的差異，就像不同語言之間語法、詞彙的諸多差異。中西方音樂是存在著巨大的差異的，這與中西方的文化差異是分不開的。音樂是人類社會發展到一定程度的產物，是人類文明的重要組成部分。在人類文化地域性差異形成的時候，音樂的差異性也就隨之產生。
前人定義音樂的形式是音樂活動在其無數次重復後所逐漸形成的技巧、結構、程序和模式，是音樂藝術高度發展的一個標志。而文化，則決定著生命是以何種方式，遵循著何種軌跡進行運作並做出物化表現的。因而要想使音樂充分展示出其固有的活力，只有藉助文化這一藝術原創力的沖擊才有可能。
越是高度發展的音樂，我們就越是有必要將其與最初創造它的文化、生命相接通，本文就僅從中西音樂的調式、織體和節奏等方面的細節特徵，來探視一下它們與中西文化差異的深層聯系。
一、中西音樂調式的差異
專業術語：「西方音樂體系調式構成的基礎是四音音列。包含兩個全音音程和一個半音音程，有3種不同樣式的四音音列。由這3種不同的四音音列可組成12個調式，這些調式被稱為「中古調式」或「教會調式」。後來，歐洲經歷了文藝復興時期，在專業音樂創作和民間音樂中愛奧尼亞調式、利底亞調式和混合利底亞調式逐漸合為一組，演變為自然大調，伊奧利亞調式、弗利及亞調式和多利亞調式也逐漸合為一組，演變為自然小調。並由於自然大、小調相互滲透，又逐漸形成了和聲大、小調，旋律大、小調。」
「而中國音樂的調式構成的本質和特徵是五聲性，其構成的核心是三音小組。這三音小組共分兩類，第一類由大二度和小三度構成，第二類則由兩個大二度構成。第一類三音小組在這個音樂體系中具有典型意義，因為這是它所特有的。此類三音小組又分為兩種，第一種的結構是小三度在上方，大二度在下方，第二種恰好相反。由這兩種三音小組進行不同方式的組合，可構成宮、商、角、徵、羽五種五聲調式。」
這兩種調式比較而言，五聲體系和七聲體系確實存在著一定的差別：前者比較單純、質朴、簡潔，後者比較復雜、豐富、精緻；前者適合於表現明朗、剛勁、粗獷的風格，後者適合於表現細膩、婉曲、華麗的色彩。但這個差別僅僅具有風格上的意義，而不具有判別高下、優劣的能力。復雜的、精緻的不一定就好，就先進；簡單的、質朴的不一定就差，就落後。然而，中國古代並非沒有七聲音列，自先秦起，中國即有許多樂器（如古琴、古箏等）能夠演奏七聲音列。甚至連十二音音列也已經早在先秦即已出現，比西方的十二音體系要早1800多年。就是說，在中國音樂活動中很早就已出現七聲音列和十二音音列，但中國音樂並沒有選擇它們，而是選擇了五聲體系。
而中國文化從一開始就表現出一種相反的傾向：疏曠、單純、簡潔和明快。中國人不喜歡拐彎抹角，不喜歡繁瑣論證，無論在學術上還是在藝術上，他們都盡可能的直截了當，追求頓悟見性，洞察本質，總是力求用最少的文字來表達最多的內容，以最少的筆墨來製造最動人的韻味。返樸歸真，確實是中國人生活的最高旨趣，也是中國人藝術的最高旨趣。
西方人之所以追求細致、縝密，中國人則追求簡朴、單純，是因為這兩種傾向各有其不同的文化本體，因而形成不同的功能張力。簡單地說，西方文化是以知識為本體，中國文化是以生命為本體；西方藝術的功能張力是娛人，中國藝術的功能張力是娛已。比如學術研究，西方是重在體系的完備、邏輯的嚴密、證明的充分，因為他們的成果是有待於外部實踐的檢驗，有待於對方（讀者）的被說服，並且只有在其成果被驗證、讀者被說服中才算實現了自身的價值。而中國學術所重的則是對事物的直覺把握和洞察的深度，所以它往往只是寫出思考的結果、問題的結論，而很少去作邏輯的推理或事實的論證這些中間過程。中國哲學始終以語錄體形式著述就是最典型的例證。究其原因，正是因為，在中國學者看來，他只要把自己所體認到的東西寫出來就夠了，他不需要說服讀者。中國學者對讀者當然也有自己的期望，但這期望不是被說服，而是能引發他們作同樣的體驗和感悟。而且，盡管有期望，卻並不執著，也不勉強，因為他們的學術研究、學術著述本身就是自得、自足的。重視證明，追求說服力，所以西方人的思維趨於細致、縝密；而著眼個人的領悟，內心的會意，則自然趨向於簡朴、單純。中國音樂之所以沒有選擇七聲音列和十二音音列，而獨獨選中了五聲系列，應該正是出於這樣的文化底蘊和美學追求。
二、中西音樂織體的差異
專業術語：「所謂織體，是指多聲部樂曲的旋律得以組織搭配的方法或規律。織體二字是紡織體型的縮寫。紡織體是縱橫（經緯）結合的結構，借用這個名詞是說明音樂的寫作既有縱向的結合，又有橫向的結合，還有縱橫綜合關系的結合。一般地說，強調橫向的結合是復調音樂的寫法，強調縱向的結合則是主調音樂的寫法；前者是以橫向伸展為主的線性思維，後者是以縱向配合為主的網狀立體思維。」
西方音樂體系在處理多聲部關系時，傾向於縱向的立體思維，即特別注重主調旋律與其它聲部的和聲關系。與之不同，中國音樂體系在織體思維方面則表現為橫線性，即注重各聲部旋律自身的橫向性線型展開。中國音樂中絕大部分均為單聲部，其織體與旋律是重合的，其織體就是旋律僅僅作單聲部的橫向展開。
所以，在西方音樂中，主調音樂體系佔有絕對的優勢，構成西方音樂體系的主幹。在其音樂體系中，音樂的織體思維主要是以縱向和聲為主的網狀立體性的織體思維。中國則是單純的橫線性織體思維。中國音樂的織體之所以會向橫向的線型思維發展，而沒有向縱向的和聲思維發展，原因可能是多方面的。
中西音樂織體不同的更為深刻的原因，似乎還是在文化精神之中，在各自的文化傳統與美學傳統之中。大致說來，西方文化是空間型的，而中國文化是時間型的。唯其是空間的，所以是固定的，有邊界的，因而可以分解，也可以組合；西方的科學型文化就是在此基礎上建立起來的。因其是時間的，所以是整體的，流動的，無邊界的，因而是不可分解、也不可組合的；中國的審美型文化則建築在這一根基之上。西方文化著眼於空間性，故而其藝術必然以實體的塊面為基本的造型手段，必然追求藝術的雕塑感、立體感、體積感。西方繪畫的重視透視，重視明暗，重視色塊就是最好的證明。與之相應，西方音樂也就尤其重視縱橫交叉、網狀鋪疊的立體狀織體思維，著力追求綿密厚實、緊湊和諧的富有塊面感的音響效果。
中國文化則著眼於時間性，故而其藝術自然以游動的線條為基本的造型手段，必然追求藝術的節律感、深邃感和虛靈感。中國音樂也格外重視單線延伸、蜿蜒游動的橫線型織體思維，努力追求單純婉曲、深邃渺遠的富有韻律感的音響效果。同樣是時間的、動態的藝術，但總體上，西洋音樂是將樂曲的音響（織體）塊面化、立體化，體現了西方文化將時間過程空間化的傾向。因其塊面（織體）化、立體化，故西方音樂多有「洶涌」之勢，而少「遊行」之跡。中國音樂則充分體現了中國文化的時間性特徵，使空間的形態時間化。中國音樂的最高旨趣不在音響的渾厚、結實，而是旋律在線型游動時所作的起伏、強弱、虛實、遲速等方面的變化所生的節律感。所以，中國音樂很少作大規模的合奏，故不要求各樣樂器之間的緊密配合；即使偶有合奏，也總是小范圍的，且合奏時也盡量挪出空來讓有特色的樂器獨奏或輪奏。
三、中西音樂節奏的差異
專業術語：「節奏是各音在進行時的長短關系和強弱關系，是旋律在進行時的自身律動。由於不同高低的音同時也是不同長短和不同強弱的音，音樂的節奏有兩種類型，一是均分律動，二是非均分律動。均分律動的時位感是均勻規則的，就是「有板有眼」的，它可以打出拍子來。非均分律動的時位感則是不規則、不均勻的，用常用術語說就是「無板無眼」，它不能打出拍子來，現代音樂上往往稱之為「散板」。在前一類均分律動中，則又可以分為兩種，一種是強弱拍有規則地、可稱之為「功能性均分律動」；一種是雖也有強弱拍的循環往復，但不受小節線的限制，可稱為「非功能性均分律動」。
在西方音樂中的節奏幾乎全部是「功能性均分律動」型的。在這個節奏體系中，幾乎完全不用散板，強弱拍的交替極有規則而且均勻，強弱的幅度變化也十分明顯，而且形成了固定的模式：所以，西方音樂的節奏感特別強，因為它是強弱拍的極有規則的重復更替。
中國音樂也運用「功能性均分律動」，也有均勻、規則的強弱拍安排，但中國音樂常常又加入其它的變化性節奏，使樂曲的節奏更自由，更富變化。中國音樂中的節奏是隨著音樂表現的需要由創作者自主決定的，在創作之前沒有一個固定的模式一定要往上套。
實際上，中西音樂節奏的彈性與剛性之差異，還和哲學上的重自然與重人為有著直接的聯系。剛性節奏是折線型的，其軌跡挺直而且有稜角；彈性節奏則是曲線型的，其軌跡柔和而且袁婉。前者是重視人為，以人力改造自然的結果，後者則是尊重自然，人力順其自然的結果；前者與追求知識，注重區別相一致，後者則同追求生命，注重聯系相一致。西方文化就是一個剛性模式，它傾向於將時間的過程空間化，人為地分出界線，定出規則，劃出等量的段落；中國文化則為一彈性模式，傾向於將空間的狀態時間化，強調整體，注意聯絡，追求變化，尤其注重不規則的、「神龍見首不見尾」式的美學原則。
如今，隨著中西方經濟、文化的不斷交流，中西方音樂也會彼此取長補短，以更好地服務人們的生產生活、為人們提供一個更加美妙的視聽文化。

The impression of Pride and Prejudice
The book《 Pride and Prejudice》 is written by Jane Austen , a famous English writer .
I still remember the first sentence in this book .It reads :"It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must in need of a wife ." The undertone is very clear : the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession. Love seems to be a perpetual theme all the time .And the main story in the book Pride and Prejudice is not a exception .The writer tells us her views and attitudes about love and marriage in this book.
The novel mainly tells us a love story between Elizabath and Mr. Darcy.It is at a ball that Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy for the first time and his pride and supercilious behaviors has left Elizabeth a terrible impression . This is the reason why Elizabeth's prejudice towards him begins .Besides this reason ,there are two other incidents strengthens Elizabeth's prejudice .The first is that Wickham speaks ill of Mr. Darcy, which makes Elizabeth thinks him is unworthy to making acquaince of.The second is that Elizabeth regards Darcy is the person who separates her sister Jane and Mr. Bingley.But with the plots developing ,Darcy has changed himself and become no longer pride ,he also helps Jane and Bingley's reunion .All these factor change Elizabeth's attitude towards Darcy. Eventually , Elizabeth and Darcy become a couple and lead a happy life from then on.
After reading this novel, I realize the author—Jane Austen』s attitudes and views towards love and marriage: is unpractical to get married just for property, wealth and social status while would it be without caring about these elements. Marriage should be based on a real love and it is not a game! You can not just enjoy it without prudent considerations. There is a gap which is called pride and prejudice between Elizabeth and Darcy , for they possess different society status and amount of property. But the ending which the author arranges that Elizabeth and Darcy break all the obstacles and become a love couple suggests that true do exist no matter how different the background ,the status is .And I think this book will arouse people』s awareness of the importance of true love in a marriage.

The summarry of the <<Pride and prejudice>>
The main story of the film happens between Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy. Although, it seems that, they haven』t attracted anyone』s eyes. I mean that nobody has thought that love will exist between they two. Because almost everyone has heart of the complaint from their mouths about the other. So it is not surprise to see the father become so amazed when Lizzy says that she loves Darcy. But what』s the reason? What has stopped them from getting together at first? It』s price and prejudice. We all know that at the first ball, when Lizzy asked Mr Darcy to have a dance. He refused. He didn』t think that anyone at the village can deserve him. After this, Lizzy promised not to pay attention to him any more because of his pride.
There are another two things that make the impression of the hero worse on the herion. One is that she thinks it』s him he that had separated her sister and her lover. The second is that she heard of something bad ,fabricated by Wickham who has antinomies with Darcy. These make the feeling of prejudice stronger and stronger.
At last, when everything comes to light Lizzy regretted. She found that she had misunderstood him. And darcy has although changed . Not proud at all. He made an offer of marriage to her again and was accepted. No pride and no prejudice between each other.

Whenever I open this marvelous masterpiece, my thought will goes back to the time when Jane Austen wrote down this famous line. This book has always been my favorite one, and I can proudly say that I am a 'Jane Holic' from the time I first read the book Pride and Prejudice ten years ago.As many scholars have said, this book is truely about marrige.In the book there are four different couples, who represent three different types of marriage.
The main characters in Austen's six novel are all female, thus Elizabeth is the most famous one.From the first chaper before Lizzy is displayed to the readers, the author has made us believed that 'Lizzy has something more of quickness than her sisters'. But Austen is an author of great wisdom. She has her own ironic way to creat a characters,so Lizzy isn't always that smart.When she met Mr.Wickham and lost her mind, she became a silly girl like her younger sisters.The chapter of Darcy's letter is the part for her to grow up.From then on Lizzy graally leart the truth of the two men and finally fell in love with Darcy and made the happy ending of Pride and Prejudice.
Though Austen never gave her heroines sorrow and pain in the end, she went through several heart-brokens and remained single until death.I truely admire her great courage,her independence and her imagination.Hope Austen's work can be remembered and loved all the time.

2.（湯姆索亞歷險記》讀後感）I believe that one of the factors that makes a piece of literature or even a movie a masterpiece is how well the reader can relate to the story. This is definitely a book everyone can relate to.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a literary masterpieces, written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer is a mischievous young boy who lives in the small town on the Mississippi River called St. Petersburg. The story line is simple, the book reads like a biography or a memoir of a summer in Tom Sawyer's life.
Tom Sawyer seems to be the precursor of and the template for misfit kids such as Dennis the Menace, Malcolm in the Middle, and Calvin and Hobbs. What makes this story great is that Tom Sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. The book is filled with Tom's adventures playing pirates and war with his friend Joe Harper. Tom has a trusted friend, Huck Finn, who few of the alts approve of. The book is filled with ideas of how the world works, such as how pirates and robbers work, that are so innocent, they could only come from a child. It is a story filled with action, adventure, ingenious ideas, love, and schoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication of what people did or wish they did ring their childhood.
The book is a little difficult to read at first. Personally, it takes me a little while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the book. Other than referring to persons of African decent in derogatory terms (which I'm sure uses terms even young children already know), the book would be an enjoyable read for people of all ages. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to feel young again, if just for a few hundred pages.

Every one knows that a man with a good income who is not yet married must need a wife. When such a man move into a new neighborhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the families who lived there, that they immediately consider him to be the property of one or other of their daughters. What he may think about it is not a matter of any importance.
The story is about the love between 4 couples, mainly Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. It is also about a social problem: love, fortune and social class. In my opinion, that doesn't make sense a poor woman with beautiful appearance and nice manners, but low social class can not marry a rich man. It is terribly ridiculous! In the story, the writer told us clearly that Jane Bennet and Mr. Bingley admired (or loved) each other, very clearly at the very beginning of the story, and so did Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, written later in the story. But the obstacles between their marriage--the gentlemen's family and friends--are proud and have deep prejudice, especially Miss Bingley. Anyway, there is no doubt that Mr. Darcy do have pride at first, but it is very rejoicing for all of them forget the pride at last.
Anyway, there is no difference between the opportunity between people with different social class and fortune...
