《泰坦尼克號》3D版本工程浩大，不論是時間還是成本，在規格上都堪比製作一部新電影。詹姆斯·卡梅隆參與了每一幀畫面的轉制過程，有300位計算機工程師為此辛苦了逾60周。

他們要畫出每一個物體和每個角色臉部的輪廓，放進正確的深度位置，並且通過非常精巧的處理讓這些效果完全融入並不留痕跡。因原版《泰坦尼克號》沒有數字母帶，所以轉制3D從修復開始，先清理掉原來2D素材的噪點，盡量讓影片像全新的。

團隊在搭建人工湖、攝影棚的同時，泰坦尼克號巨大的船體模型也在藝術總監Charles
Lee的帶領下建造著。一開始團隊打算用臨時的帆布來搭建這些場景，但是考慮到拍攝周期將會很長，最後決定使用鋼結構。

為了進度，船上的布景建設必須同時進行。還有大部分的內部設施，艙餐廳、那個豪華樓梯等都是在墨西哥城製作完成，再拆開運到羅薩里托，再由工作人員裝配起來 。
