話劇名稱由來

一種以對白和動作為主要表現手段的戲劇。最早出現在辛亥革命前夕，當時稱作「新劇」或「文明戲」。新劇於辛亥革命後逐漸衰落。「五四」運動以後，歐洲戲劇傳入中國，中國現代話劇興起，當時稱「愛美劇」和「白話劇」。它通過人物性格反映社會生活。話劇中的對話是經過提煉加工的口語，必須具有個性化，自然，精煉，生動，優美，富有表現力，通俗易懂，能為群眾所接受。郭沫若的《屈原》、老舍的《茶館》，曹禺的《雷雨》，蘇叔陽的《丹心譜》等，都是我國著名的話劇。

話劇是在20世紀初才由外國傳入中國的。1907年由中國留學日本東京的曾孝谷據美國小說改編的《黑奴籲天錄》，是中國早期話劇的第一個劇本。現代著名話劇家有郭沫若、曹禺、洪深、田漢、老舍等。

19世紀末20世紀初，中國社會經濟政治的變化推動了戲劇運動的發展，戲曲領域里出現了全國規模的改良運動。同時，在日本新派劇和歐洲戲劇的影響下誕生了中國早期話劇，當時叫新劇，又稱作文明戲。新劇興起於辛亥革命前夕，後經中國早期話劇奠基人任天知領導的進化團總結這一新興劇種的經驗，探索創新，並吸收外來營養加以發展，從而形成了完整的格局。早期的優秀劇目有《家庭恩怨記》《社會鍾》《空谷蘭》《梅花落》《珍珠塔》《恨海》等。

Then the bus arrives at a stop and an old woman gets on. She looks at the seats. Seeing no empty seats, she stands next to a female student and holds onto a plastic ring.)

Old woman: There're no empty seats. I guess I'll have to stand.

(The female students find the old woman not having a seat. They want to help her find one to sit in.)

Female student A: We should find a seat for her.
