1933年版的《金剛》在影迷們當中有著很高的人氣。因為它不僅僅是代表一部單純的電影作品，它甚至帶動了電影藝術的一個潮流。自七十二年前那隻威猛的大黑猩猩首次登上帝國大廈，就已經在數不勝數的影視劇中亮相，就連近日橫掃北美票房的迪斯尼動畫片《四眼天雞》中也可以看到那再熟悉不過的經典橋段。
還記得1976年，約翰·吉爾勒明耗費相當於當今6500萬美元巨資翻拍的《金剛》，除了將金剛大戰戰機的場景從帝國大廈搬到在「9·11」中被覆滅的「世貿雙子」外，其它故事發展和場景設置幾乎與原版相同，但是，這部使用了當時最為先進的電影特技的《金剛》被觀眾斥為「簡單的幻想片」，與原版的《金剛》完全沒可比之處，這或許是觀眾對原版《金剛》愛護有加的表現之一吧。想當初梅里安·庫珀僅消耗了68萬美元拍出那部傳世的黑白經典《金剛》，銀幕上的大猩猩實際僅有十幾米高，而用來拍攝握住安的近鏡卻由一隻8米長的「巨臂」完成，那強壯的軀體也只由塑料加上兔毛粘制而成，可想而知這只大怪物有多「簡陋」。然而，在觀眾心目中，這只金剛好得無可比擬。實在佩服大半個世紀前威利斯·布里恩為該片做出的有史以來第一個振奮人心的視覺特效。可惜當初奧斯卡還沒有最佳視覺特效獎，憑1933版《金剛》天馬行空的想法和特效，絲毫不比當今的好萊塢CG電影差多少……
