影片講述的是一個極其努力卻仍然窮困潦倒的推銷員，因為經濟窘迫而離開的妻子，天真卻無條件相信自己父親的上幼兒園的兒子。影片最後，主人公通過自己超乎尋常的堅持與努力，終於成功當上了待遇優厚的股票經紀人。
