《世界是平的》有兩個層次的故事，一個曾是是說通訊和交通發達，使得文化交流更加容易。片中描述了大量的印度的人文風情，對西方人來說是難以理解的，由於主人公隻身進入特定環境，所以他不得不適應這里的文化，最後也喜歡上了這種文化。這也是作者的聰明之處，因為美國文化在多數情況下都是處於強勢地位，甚至變為文化侵略。這部片子的獨特之處就是把主人公代表的美國文化放在一個弱勢地位，和事實上強勢的印度文化進行碰撞和交流。 《世界是平的》另一個層次是：全球經濟一體化。而影片英文名字「Outsourced」—「外包」則更具化了這一內容。資本是逐利的，在它披著全球經濟一體化外衣的運作過程中，必然要想方設法降低各種成本，而其中相當一部分就是人力成本，使得資本和工作機會不斷在朝著人力成本更低的地方流動——從這個角度來講，世界恰恰是不平的——使得人力成本高的地方失業率增加。當然在發達國家，通過法律等手段可以對就業進行一定程度的保障，並且外包使得他們用更少的價格就能得到差不多的商品和服務；但是在那些人力成本處於中間位置的國家，就最為危險：外資逐利的本性客觀催肥了這些國家，而這種催肥是不踏實的，很容易再被外包轉移和游資等搜颳走，前者導致市場和就業消失，後者即所謂的金融風暴。當然投資性資本和熱錢游資是有本質區別的，但是在很多情況下，投資性外資恰恰是剝削第三世界國家資源的排頭兵，如果第三世界國家沒有手段來控制外資投資的合理性，並在外包的同時學習經驗發展自己的產業並進行產業升級。從全球經濟一體化的角度來講，從資本可以四處流動的角度來講，世界是平的。

Rare Tom and Jerry title card from the 1940s, no longer seen on re-issue prints.Tom and Jerry are an Academy Award-winning animated cat (Tom) and mouse (Jerry) team who formed the basis of a successful series of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) theatrical short subjects created, written and directed by animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera (later of Hanna-Barbera fame).
The series was proced by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio in Hollywood from 1940 until 1957, when the animation unit was closed down. In 1960, MGM outsourced the proction of Tom and Jerry to Rembrandt Films (led by Gene Deitch) in Eastern Europe.
In 1963, proction of Tom and Jerry shorts returned to Hollywood with Chuck Jones' Sib-Tower 12 Proctions; this series lasted until 1967. Tom and Jerry later resurfaced in TV cartoons proced by Hanna-Barbera (1975 - 1977; 1990 - 1993) and Filmation Studios (1980 - 1982). The original MGM shorts helmed by Hanna and Barbera are notable for having won seven Academy Awards, tying it with Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies as the most-awarded theatrical animated series.
